Marlow and the surrounding area has a large number of runners of all standards and the town has been crying out for a local shop to cater for the sport… and now we will have one! Runners’ Retreat, opens on Saturday 1st October at 33 West Street , Marlow.

The shop’s owners-Matt Whiting and Brian Bower share a passion for running and a wealth of experience gained over years of running competitively as well as just for the joy of it. Together, they are looking to bring a totally inspirational approach to the art of running.

Runners’ Retreat will be the new local hub with everything today’s runner needs. The shop will feature all the latest designs and technology in shoes and kit from all the top brands, and in addition will bring all the help, support and advice customers need from two of the most experienced runners in the area. They will also have club and race information on view in the shop.

Matt has been fanatical about running from an early age. Well-known locally, he has competed at County level and for Wycombe Phoenix AC , Windsor , Slough and Eton AC and currently with Belgrave Harriers. Apart from coaching young cross-country hopefuls at Burford School , he is coach to international and Olympic marathon prospect, Phil Wicks.

Brian, who has been running for many years, actually completed the first London Marathon in 1981. He now competes as an age grouper at all distances as well as triathlon and duathlon, and is a member of Burnham Joggs, Marlow Striders and Gnarly Nutters Tri Club. He is a fully-trained Natural Running coach and can provide help and advice on the right shoe for you backed up with the latest Dartfish Gait Analysis software. Brian says, “Nothing compares to the sheer freedom of running. In many ways, it’s the purest sport on the planet. All it requires is time and space, and with right shoes and kit it’s both comfortable and safe and of course running has massive health benefits.”

Running is a fast-growing sport and Runners’ Retreat expects to become a haven for runners of all ages and abilities. The place to go for kit, training advice, technical updates, nutrition, and motivation.
