Barkers is closing all stores after “end of a trial”

| |

Barkers of Marlow will be closing on Sunday 18th March 2018.  The shop sells upmarket dog food, treats, toys and accessories – and it also includes an onsite dog spa. The shop has proved massively popular with dog loving residents in and around Marlow.

Barkers opened in Marlow in June 2015 (read our original announcement here), and was the second store with the Barkers branding to open – the business is actually owned by the huge Pets at Home Group,  the UK’s largest pet supplies retailer, with hundreds of stores.

A spokesperson for Barkers told us: “It is with regret that we have decided to close Barkers of Marlow at the end of a trial.  All colleagues from the Barkers store will be offered alternative roles in local Pets at Home stores. We would like to thank customers for their support and promise them a warm welcome at our local Pets at Home stores and Groom Rooms.”

There are now six Barkers stores, but we have been told that ALL six stores will be closed by the end of March. This is a real shame for staff, and for customers. The Pets at Home group acknowledge that the stores are popular with customers, but it seems that after nearly 3 years, they just can’t make the concept work in terms of the required financial return…
