Goodbye “Slug & Lettuce”…. hello “The Old Brewery”

| |

The countdown to the closure of the Slug and Lettuce on Marlow High Street has begun as owners reveal a £300,000  transformation into a completely new pub format.

To confirm – this is not a change of owners, but a significant change of offering, a big refit… and a change of name. We first revealed the new name back in November 2017, and now have much more detail from the owners and management – it is a brand new pub as far as they are concerned.

New name – new offering

The Slug will close its doors for the last time on Sunday 18th February ahead of renovations that will be unveiled for the first time less than a month later on 13th March.

The new pub is to be named ‘The Old Brewery’ – paying homage to the building’s history, being sited on part of the old Wethereds Brewery. We can expect real ale, craft and premium beers and ciders, 2-4-1 cocktails, and the promise of an all day proper pub food menu from 9am, with a modern pub design. We were shown some details of the planned interior styling, and it will be quite a transformation – more individual booths and a stylish, yet cosy and relaxed vibe. We will bring you much more detail later, of course!

A significant change, and a real focus of the new pub’s offering will be to show top end sports – promising to show every type of sport through its nine TVs, big screen and multiple Sky and BT boxes. The opening comes just in time for the Anthony Joshua fight on 31st March, for example.

The Old Brewery plans to have late weekend opening hours with DJs, and host events and entertainment, plenty more details on all this to come.

MyMarlow recently met with the manager – Marlow resident Indrit Bala. He said “We’ve been trying to keep the plans under wraps so far, but we’ve had great interest in our rumoured changes, and we’re keen to give people an idea of what to expect.  Customers can follow the progress on our Facebook page where we’ll publish regular images of what’s going on inside.”

We found Indrit to be really enthusiastic about the changes – he stressed the transformation inside and out would be of the highest quality, and that the sports offering would be on a new level compared to anything else offered in town. We will follow the changes with interest, and of course keep you all in the loop!

New jobs created

Alongside the big investment comes new jobs. Indrit explained the hunt for new team members: “This is a pub that’s going to have big personality, with a famously friendly team. We’ve created ten new jobs for the town as a result of the investment and will be recruiting over the next few weeks – so happy team players get applying!”
