Pizza express has been in Marlow since way back in 1996, which makes me feel very old!

We popped along soon after a major refurbishment, thinking it was time for an updated review of the place.

We went with our our son, and even younger baby twins – but told the restaurant of this in advance, and they arranged a table where we could all fit with the twins in their buggy.  This worked out great, and of course not every restaurant can accommodate in this way. The place was full of families, as you might expect for Sunday lunchtime, and had a great atmosphere.

Our waiter, Lewis, was fun, friendly and helpful in recommending when asked.

For starters we share the mixed antipasto, a very generous plate for us to feast on.

We both went for the extra thin Romana base pizzas.  This is always our choice at Pizza Express, and much more like the pizzas we have tried in Italy in terms of a lovely thin and very crispy base.  I don’t want to get full up on just a thick dough base… I’d rather have space for more toppings! My Toscana with crumbled sausage, was deliciously tasty and pleasantly spicy.

Whilst Mrs MyMarlow went for an ice cream concoction, my dessert was an absolutely huge slice of tiramisu. I’m always going to be happy with huge portions, and luckily it tasted great of course.

Our young son was well served by the “Piccolo menu” with 3 courses for the little ones –  and we didn’t have to resort to the ipad to keep him quiet, he was happy enough with the  stickers, puzzles  and coloured pencils provided.

I spoke to manager Andy Chase told me that they already have gluten free pizza bases, and are moving to increase the gluten free items on the menu.  They also have a specific sub 500 calorie range – the Leggera Pizza, which is a ring of thinner pizza, with the hole in the middle filled with salad. I’ll save that one for another day… today was a bit of a feast 🙂

Overall then – the service team were knowledgeable, welcoming and enthusiastic, which you might not always expect of chains. The food was great and generous in portion size.  No surprise – we will keep coming back like we always do 🙂

Puzzles, hat, stickers… this lot kept our son occupied!
