England’s first World Cup match- where to watch or avoid!

| | , ,

eng italSo, you might have spent the day at the Regatta, or otherwise enjoying the sunshine… but if you fancy spending the evening in a pub – and/or watching England’s World Cup opening match (vs Italy at 11pm) … where to go?

OK, first up – if you want to AVOID the footie entirely, then head on to Baroosh who are proudly declaring themselves a “football free zone” for the whole tournament. Or as they put it: “Prefer Peronis & Pinot over penalties? Then Baroosh – Marlow is the perfect place for you to get away from it all”

Also its worth noting that O’Donoghues will be closed all day on Sat 14th. But thereafter they will show all world cup games (all countries) that fall within their opening times ( Mon/Fri 5pm to midnight Sat/Sun 12noon to midnight). They can also cope with 2 games at the same time as they have 5 screens.

So, where to watch the match on Saturday 14th?

Claytons
On the 14th they have a BBQ from 4pm in their garden. They will be serving a World Cup Cocktail Special- caipirinhas- and having DJs from 6pm as part of a Brazilian themed party. The England game will be shown on the indoor projection screen at 11pm. Basically, it says it all on the banner of their Facebook page.

Cross Keys staff.. not excited at all 🙂
Cross Keys
If you want to be in a pub where you can see the action from pretty much anywhere….. well, the Cross Keys are showing this match, and all other games over 8 screens with full HQ sound.  The pub really gets into the footie spirit with decorations… and well you can see some of the staff in this photo! And again, get the up to date info on their Facebook page.

Slug and Lettuce
According to the advert on their Facebook page ” they have a live band from 6pm, then a DJ and will be showing the game – but ” on screens with no sound“, They also have 2-4-1 on Pimms and Cocktails all weekend!    So this mix might suit those with a passing interest in the match, rather than the full on fans.

The Ship
Will be ticket only entry, for a post Regatta do – including BBQ, footie and intriguingly… a “Silent Disco“. Tickets available from the pub in advance.

Crowne Plaza
are showing all matches on big screens in agua café & bar and during the England match this Saturday 14th, they’re serving food until midnight. Bar open until 2am. World Cup offer: buy a burger in agua café & bar and get a free pint.

The Chequers
Like the Slug and Lettuce – they will be showing it on screens, but with the sound turned off.

That should do for starters. Let us know if there is anywhere else we should be adding in!
