Marlow well represented by Commonwealth Games athletes!

The Commonwealth Games kicked off this week, and Team England includes some talented athletes from Marlow! Here are brief details of who they are, and how you can keep up to date with their progress.

Barry  Middleton – Hockey

Marlow resident Barry Middleton is captain of the Men’s Hockey team.

Barry has a wealth of experience having competed in three Olympic Games, and he’s the current squad’s most capped England and GB player.

At the time of writing, the England men’s squad are off to a winning start, defeating Trinidad and Tobago 6-1 – with Barry scoring!

Alex Danson – Hockey

The women’s Hockey squad includes Marlow resident Alex Danson, a very experienced and successful player – and Olympic bronze medal winner no less!

At time of writing, the women’s team have won their opening game vs Wales 2-0, with Alex opening the scoring! Read the full BBC report here.

Pippa Woolven – Steeplechase

Marlow’s Pippa Woolven, 21, will compete in the the 3,000m steeplechase

Pippa is on an athletics scholarship at Florida State University, but was formerly a pupil at Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School.

The Women’s 3000m Steeplechase Final is on Wed  30 July 19:45 – 19:55
