Villa d'Este (website)

Our food review:
A Marlow institution for some 25 years, with a loyal local following. The food is Italian, but proper dishes, not a pizza in sight! There is always an extensive list of specials, often as much choice as the main menu - to ensure some variety for those who visit regularly, as many do. Desserts come in the form of a trolley being wheeled to your table, and the choice is superb. I usually go for a trifle, delicious! The staff are friendly and many have been there for years - and they contribute to a real atmosphere in the place. A deservedly popular restaurant.

I have enjoyed many wonderful evenings a villa d este over the years. The staff have always gone out of their way to make us very welcome and nothing has ever been to much bother. The food has always been outstanding. Rating: rating

I was taken to villa d este for my birthday last week, the food was fantastic!!!! The service was great and I even had all the staff sing happy birthday to me and had the most delicious dessert to top it all off. I would recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and we will be going back again very soon! Rating: rating

Highly recommended but unfortunatly fails to live up to expectations because success is a poor teacher. The Management are surly and patronising which really jars when you arrive. They have a small cliche of regulars who they fawn over whilst ignoring newcomers. I felt really sorry for a young couple who were literally ignored by the staff, all the young man wanted was a good time for his partner and instead he was humiliated in front of her by the regime at Villa D'este. The food is good and it is a such a shame that the older management don't leave serving to younger, uncynical and enthusiastic waiting staff. Rating: rating

'Had a family get together for lunch yesterday(Sunday) at Villa d'Este. The restaurant was filled to bursting point which meant we were packed together like sardines and the noise was deafening. This was a shame as the food was good although slightly smaller portions than usual I thought. I have eaten here before and there is always background chatter but yesterday was horrendous. I still have a headache. Perhaps the proprietor should be satisfied with fewer diners who could eat in more comfort. Obviously a place to be avoided if you want a relaxing Sunday lunch Rating: rating

Some of the best food short of being in Italy. Every time I visited Marlow I would make it a point to take some friends to Villa d'Este. The people were very friendly and many of them have worked there for years. The food is excellent and I have never had a bad meal. Very nice place to eat Rating: rating
