Another busy week in Marlow and we are happy to bring you the first of our weekly sporting round-ups from the local area.

And where better to start it than the Marlow Half Marathon which took place yesterday.

The 30th Anniversary of the event didn’t disappoint with more than 900 keen runners braving the chilly November morning and the hills to take part, plus nearly 500 runners in the newer 7 mile race.

Tim Haughian of the Stragglers club placed first with a new course record  time of 1:14:57, while James Samson of the Datchet Dashers won the 7-mile race with a time of 40:04.  Winners of the women’s races were Becky Atkinson of Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow AC in 1:29:29, and in the 7 mile Gemma Buley of Reading Roadrunners in 48:35.

Congratulations to all winners and to everyone who took part, maybe you made it into our website photo gallery.

Football

Marlow FC logoJumping backward in time slightly and Marlow FC continued their fantastic run of late to put four goals past Chipstead on Saturday.

The Blues, who play in the Bostik Football League – South Central Division, put in one of their performances of the season and moved up to third in the table.

A hattrick from Kamaron English and a late Marcus Mealing goal was nothing more than the home side deserved, as they stretch their unbeaten run in the league to four matches.

Rugby

However, it wasn’t as fruitful a weekend for Marlow’s rugby union sides

Marlow RFC 1st’s fell to a heavy 52-10 defeat against Bicester -Jack Spurr grabbing both of Marlow’s tries away from home.

It wasn’t much better for the Marlow 2nd side, as they went down 66-13 to Bracknell, while the 3rd’s battled to a closely fought 18-10 loss to Bracknell IV. The 3rd’s remain second in the table despite the narrow loss.

Hockey

And finally, Marlow Ladies 1s Hockey team came out 4-1 winners over Epsom with a hat-trick from Jane Smith on Saturday afternoon in the pick of the Hockey results.
