Christmas Light Switch On

At 6.30pm on Thursday, 23rd November,  screenwriter and novelist Robert Thorogood will be ‘flicking the switch’ at the Switch On – the annual event that marks the illumination of the Marlow’s beautiful Christmas lights.

Robert, a local resident, and creator of BBC’s “Death in Paradise,” and the author of two best-selling Marlow-based novels, “The Marlow Murder Club” and “Death Comes to Marlow,” will take centre stage in the heart of Marlow for the ceremony.

Every year, crowds of people line the High Street as the ceremony is performed from the top of a double-decker bus in the High Street. ‘Snow’ will start falling at 6:00 pm, and carols and festive music will play while stilt walkers strut the streets as Mother Christmas, a candy cane, Nutcracker soldiers, and a Snow Queen.

The lights have become a popular tourist attraction, bringing visitors into the town during the Christmas period. Marlow Town Mayor, David Brown said “The Christmas lights wouldn’t be possible without the support of our many loyal sponsors, and we’re extremely grateful to them for enabling our fantastic display.”

The High Street will be closed to traffic from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and the ceremony takes place at 6.30 pm.
