Introduction to Zentangle Workshop for Preteens to Adults
June 4 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm£12.50 – £25.00
This special LOVE Marlow Introduction to Zentangle is the first step of your Zentangle journey! How far you go on your journey is up to you, but should you wish to continue learning I would be delighted to accompany you on further steps.
Suitable for anyone aged 11 upwards, this workshop is easy to follow and fun. Zentangle is for everyone and is satisfying, calming and engaging. If you are booking on a child you needn’t stay with them during the workshop, however it’s a nice option to have children and parents or grandparents learning together too!
The Benefits of Zentangle:
– An outlet for your inner creativity
– Mindful, calming and relaxing
– Portable and few tools required – a hobby you can take anywhere with you
– Can help ease anxiety and stress
– Can help build self-esteem and confidence
– You will create some beautiful artwork to take home
– You will learn techniques to continue at home and progress with your skills
– A break from the chaos of daily life
What is Zentangle® ?
The Zentangle Method was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We refer to these patterns as tangles and they are formed with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. Together this selection of shapes form the Elemental Strokes used in Zentangle art, and are drawn on small pieces of paper called “tiles” – appropriately named, because they can be assembled into gorgeous mosaics.
Beautiful and satisfying results are achievable for absolutely everyone – all you need is the desire to have a go, and a little self-belief! All materials are provided for use during the workshop.
Zentangle is a calming and unrushed activity and has a positive influence on mental health, creativity, problem solving and focus. It is accessible to everyone, children and adults alike, and is mindful, intuitive, timeless, portable and most importantly – FUN! There are no prizes for finishing first, it is all about slowing down, giving your brain a break and relaxing, enjoying the process and admiring the results.
The simple step-by-step method is easy to pick up and inexpensive to continue with at home.
Things to Note & FAQs:
This is a Special Offer Workshop:
As this is a LOVE Marlow event, my usual prices have been discounted slightly.
Usual prices are Adult £30, Child £15, Senior Citizen £27.
What age group is this workshop suitable for?
Suitable for 11 years old upwards. I also run separate children’s workshops, usually during school holidays, and regular adult workshops (age 14+) on weekdays, evenings and weekends.
Who is running this workshop?
My name is June Bailey, I am a Marlow resident. I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher (qualified June 2018). I am DBS checked, friendly and encouraging – I will look after you!
What do I need to bring with me?
All materials are provided. If you wear glasses for reading/close work please bring them with you! It is possible that you may get a little inky so don’t wear your very best clothes.
Timings and Venue:
This is a full two-hour workshop, so please arrive a little early to make yourself comfortable and grab a drink before we begin.
The Function Room is accessed through the main entrance of the pub. Walk straight through past the toilets and you will go through two sets of double doors then the Function Room door. You will see signs directing you the right way.
Complimentary tea, coffee and of course water will be available throughout the workshop in the same room. You are also very welcome to bring through a drink from the bar.
If you wish to eat at the Old Brewery before or after the workshop, please take this into consideration when paying for your parking session!
I offer an optional Starter Kit to take home at a cost of an additional £6.50. This will include 2 Sakura Pigma Micron pens (01 and 08 nibs), pencil, a small selection of tiles, and a tortillon (smudger). I also have packs of 10 hand cut tiles which are £2. If you would like to purchase any of these, card payments are preferred but please bring along the correct money if you’d rather pay in cash.
Please do not use street parking for this event, as you will exceed the one hour limit and I would hate for you to get a parking ticket!
Parking is available just a short walk from the venue at Pound Lane Court Garden Leisure Complex, or another close car park is Institute Road, which is smaller, but a more straightforward walk as you just head out of the car park, turn left to walk to the High Street, and cross the road to the venue.
Pound Lane Car Park:
Institute Road Car Park:
Parking at Court Garden or Institute Road would cost £2.00 for three hours, which would cover the event time plus a little leeway, or £2.50 for four hours. Further details are shown on the map links above.
Other car parks in Marlow can be found here and I believe all the parking rates are the same:
What is LOVE Marlow?
LOVE Marlow Festival: 1-16 June 2019
LOVE Marlow is a festival of community activity, created by the people of Marlow, for the people of Marlow.
The 2019 LOVE Marlow Festival will once again be jam-packed with community activities – including music, sport, workshops and kids’ events – as well as opportunities to spread kindness and help others around the Town.
Full details of all events can be found at www.lovemarlow.co.uk
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Please see above section on Car Parking. For buses and trains:
From London Paddington to Marlow via Maidenhead where all trains change, there is a half hourly link train operating to Marlow. You would then need to walk past the Marlow Donkey pub up towards the High Street, then turn right at Burgers to walk slightly up the High Street. The Old Brewery is on the same side of the road as the park, so you will need to cross overto go over the bridge. If travelling this way, I suggest allowing 20 minutes’ walking time for a comfortable stroll, although obviously this will depend on how fast you walk!
The Arriva Bus Service travels to Marlow from High Wycombe and Reading. You would need to get off the bus at Spittal Street (next to Waitrose) and walk up towards Boots, then turn left down the High Street, cross over to the same side as Barclays and walk down the High Street until you reach The Old Brewery.
