Learn all about Marlow’s peregrine falcons with Wild Marlow
July 4 at 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
On Sunday, 4th July, Wild Marlow will be holding a very special event.
For many weeks now, the volunteer group has been watching and helping Marlow’s very own peregrine falcon pair, providing them with a special nesting platform on the spire of All Saints’ Church to assist them in raising a family. Currently three fast-growing chicks are keeping their parents very busy with feeding and are expected to fledge in the next month or so.
From 10.00 – 14.00 on 4th July, Wild Marlow is holding a ‘drop-in’ event at The Causeway, when birding experts will be on hand to answer questions about these very special birds. They will also show footage of the breeding stage of the two falcons, which have been nicknamed Marly and Roy in acknowledgement of Marlow’s twin town Marly-le-Roi.
“Bring your binoculars, or you can borrow scopes to get a close-up view of the birds,” Verity West of Wild Marlow said. “Hopefully we’ll get a brilliant view of the youngsters learning to fly.”
The pair of peregrine falcons, the world’s fastest birds, got together on the spire of All Saints’ Church in Marlow last year. Wild Marlow installed a camera to follow their progress and has been rewarded with fantastic flying and mating footage, published on its Facebook page. A clutch of four eggs were laid in early April and hatched around a month later. Three chicks remain and are growing rapidly into fully-fledged falcons.
