MAS Talk – Buckinghamshire’s Saxon Prince: the burial at Taplow.
July 11 at 8:00 pm
A talk by LESLIE WEBSTER former Keeper, Dept. of Prehistory & Europe, British Museum
What princely Anglo-Saxon treasures did archaeologists find when they excavated the Taplow mound in 1883? Leslie Webster is the acknowledged expert on the 7th-century burial in the churchyard at Taplow Court, which contained a rich and varied collection of grave goods, now in the British Museum, similar in quality and date to those at Sutton Hoo. She demonstrates how reconstruction and comparison to Sutton Hoo and Prittlewell finds have enabled the burial’s significance to be better understood, in both regional and national contexts.
