Review of Burgers of MarlowThe best coffee in Marlow - the best cakes. My husband and I are hooked and we must have their coffee every Saturday - they even stamp a little card for regulars and now and again you get a freebie! The place looks a lot smarter these days too! Rating:2012-02-02 Judy

Cafe Copia
Copia's seeks to offer freshly prepared products made of produce from small artisan suppliers. That doesnt count for much if the stuff doesnt taste good but luckily it does. Food on offer includes baguettes and wraps with various filling, quiches, salads and cakes. In addition to tea and coffee, their specialities are the various juices and smoothies with names like Refresh and Energy Boost indicating their supposed benefits. Breakfast offerings are comprehensive, and detailed in our special breakfast page! They also have PROPER free wifi, with no need for messing around with passwords. Also, they offer crayons and colouring books for children. Cafe In the Park
A prime location just near the entrance to Higginson Park, used by many for a quick coffee and cake... but also serves up some decent more substantial items. A favourite of mine is the mezze platter with beef kofta- which achieves the considerable task of filling me up. Lovely cakes too! Breakfast options are covered in our special breakfast review page. DETAILS: Opening hours: Seven days a week 9am-5pm - staying open until 6pm dependent on demand, Outdoor seating: Yes-plenty, Children welcome: Next to the playground, highchairs, varied kids menu, gluten free options. All kids meals come with a piece of fruit. Baby changing - available in the council toilets adjacent to the caf?Wifi-free to customers. Disabled access: YesIn their own words:We are passionate about food and its provenance. Foods needs to taste good and be good for you. To us that means it should be fresh, full of great ingredients and be free from the nasties that are so common in much of the food eaten today.

The Cedar Coffee Shop
Lovely small cafe, with a huge selection of cakes if that tickles your fancy. The savoury snacks are just as enticing - the coronation chicken wrap is a definite lunch favourite and well recommended.28 West St, SL7 2NB, 01628 477717

Choco-Latte
A really good independent cafe which also retails related products and speciality chocolates. A good range of coffees, teas and cold drinks including milkshakes, and on the food front made-to-order paninis and baguettes as well as a good range of cakes. Nicely located just off the High Street meaning you can enjoy a seat outside in a pedestrianised environment.Unit 8, Liston Court

Costa Coffee
Opening in Sep 2007, with the town already served by Starbucks and other cafes this might seem an unnecessary addition - especially replacing the already missed Horizons bookshop. However - I do have to say the size of the place makes it a more relaxing spot than Starbucks, especially the upstairs section - and the listed, beamed building really adds to the pleasant atmosphere of the place. They also bring drinks and food to your table, rather than the 'shouting it out' approach at Starbucks, and have a loyalty card scheme too.4 West Street www.costa.co.uk/

Caffe Fego
We rave over this establishment in our 'Breakfasts' section, but throughout the day it is well worth a visit for a great selection of meals and snacks of all sorts, and (of particular interest to me) the portions are usually generous. An inventive selection of drinks (e.g.Nutella cappuccino!), and as we state in the breakfast section - best coffee in Marlow without a doubt. In fact, just writing this makes me want to visit, so I'll finish here and pop down....59 High Street, 01628 475873

Loaf
Small cafe - but with a wide range of sandwiches, paninis, wraps, toasties and salads. The chilli lemon crayfish and crispy bacon salad makes for a great lunch - and is my favourite offering.2 Market Square, SL7 1BE, 01628 472 743 www.loafmarlow.co.uk

Pips
A cafe and sandwich bar, serving a large selection of meals including homemade burgers, omelettes, salads and jacket potatoes. Pips also serves cooked all-day breakfasts .. which are great value for money. Open from 7am Tues-Fri and 8am Mon closing at 3pm. Saturday's 8:30am-4pm. Note they are not open on Sunday - a crying shame!4-5 Anglers Court, Spittal St, 01628 472828

Starbucks
Very popular, and sometimes too popular spot for a quick coffee - at peak periods it is clogged by numerous oversized pushchairs. I'm a big fan of the drinks and food though - and it is a convenient place to meet and catch up with friends, although the decor is getting a bit tired and is some way behind the other coffee shops in town.60 High Street, 01628 476914

A lovely locally owned sandwich shop where you are always greeted with a smile. A fantastic range of sandwich fillings to go in baguettes, paninis, rolls and sandwiches. They also do breakfasts, jacket potatoes and have a hot plates for pastries like sausage rolls. There are some small tables inside so you can sit and eat or take your purchase to the park round the corner. 9-11 Spittal Street

Chinese
Sun-Ya Restaurant
Marlow's only Chinese restaurant, following the closure of the Jasmine in 2010. Quite a small restaurant, but the quality of food is good, and the do a great takeaway. Menus are available on the website. In their own words:We can seat up to 30 people and we provide an excellent takeaway service with a 10% discount. All the usual favourites are available including crispy aromatic duck with pancakes and shredded beef, and lets not forget the toffee bananas for dessert followed by a pot of jasmine tea to end the evening. An excellent Chinese beer is also available from the selection of bottled beers. Fish and Chips
Penguin Fish Bar and Cafe
Has a small seating area, so that makes it a sort of restaurant. Nice clean premises, and most importantly excellent chips. Also open late enough for those post-pub chip cravings (as long as you leave the pub before 11pm!)West Street, 01628 477271

Hotel
The Compleat Angler
High quality, well presented food, attentive service and a great riverside location. The hotel actually has two main restaurants: The first is Bowaters, a 2 AA Rosette restaurant serving modern British food, with meals around 40 per head, for 3 courses excluding wine. The second is Aubergine - an outpost of the well known London restaurant of the same name, and having 3 AA Rosettes. It serves modern European food, with meals around 50 per head for food., 0870 4008100 www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/compleatangler

Danesfield House
Everything said about the Compleat Angler food and restaurant service also applies here, and the setting of the Oak Room restaurant is very grand indeed. In fact, the service is unsurpassed, with waiting staff seemingly on permanent standby to attend your needs. The building itself is impressive, and so are the gardens leading to views across the Thames - providing an ideal spot for aperitifs. No problems with delivery of drinks, either! Also a great location for Afternoon Tea.Henley Road, 01628 891010 www.danesfieldhouse.co.uk

Glaze at the Crowne Plaza
Glaze Restaurant is located in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, so is a little way from the town centre.Interesting menu, good quality food, attentive service and reasonable value. Comprehensive wine list and ability to order a carafe (about half a bottle) of most wines on the list.
For our main review visit we tried lamb and rib-eye steak - both cooked perfectly. Its a bit out of the way from Marlow town centre, but worth the visit to try it out. Read our full detailed review in our blog article
In their own words:Glaze Restaurant offers contemporary, eclectic cuisine in a great atmosphere. With floor-to-ceiling windows providing stunning and uninterrupted views over our terrace and lake, Glaze is the perfect environment for a delicious meal and a glass of wine. Glaze operates daily, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The seasonal menus feature freshly cooked local produce and international dishes from around the world.

Indian
Marlow Curry & Tandoori Centre
Large take-away menu with all your Indian favourites, with one big bonus - THEY WILL DELIVER TO YOUR HOUSE!! The food itself is of very high quality, and if you want delivery it is usually very prompt and still hot enough to eat without reheating. My personal favourites include the Chicken Biryani, or if you cant be bothered picking out individual bits go for the Meat Thali which even includes rice, a naan and popadom.29 Spittal St (take away), 01628 472017

Maliks
A quite upmarket Indian Restaurant, which also does take-away. Service has been friendly on our visits, and when turning up for take-aways. The food is as good as any other Indian food on offer in Marlow, although different in style. Amongst my friends there is disagreement over which is the best - so it just comes down to personal taste. I've not been disappointed with any meal in any of Marlow's Indian restauants!101 High Street, 01628 482180 www.maliks.co.uk

Villa d'Este
A Marlow institution for some 25 years, with a loyal local following. The food is Italian, but proper dishes, not a pizza in sight! There is always an extensive list of specials, often as much choice as the main menu - to ensure some variety for those who visit regularly, as many do. Desserts come in the form of a trolley being wheeled to your table, and the choice is superb. I usually go for a trifle, delicious! The staff are friendly and many have been there for years - and they contribute to a real atmosphere in the place. A deservedly popular restaurant.2 Chapel Street, 01628 472012 www.villadeste-marlow.com

Zizzi's
Stylish interior, with a small garden also. Offers a reasonable range of pizza and pasta, in generous portions. They have a bizarre booking policy, though, whereby you can't book a table in advance (unless for large groups). I don't know why this is... in any case I'd just choose somewhere I CAN book! The Old Brewery, High Street, 01628 890200

The Assembly Room
Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner - this place is getting really good reviews from visitors. We think the setting and food is great too, as reported in our detailed blog review when it first opened in June 2011. They are seeking to cover all areas in being a cafe/brasserie & restaurant, and it seems to be working! They sometimes have live background music which is proving popular, check out their Facebook page to see when the next event is.In their own words:Email info@theassemblyroom.co.uk Opening times: 9.30am - 11pm Tuesday to Saturday 9.30am - 5.30pm Monday 11am - 6.00pm Sunday

Marlow Bar and Grill
One of my favourite restaurants, and a place I like to take visitors to the town. Not sure why, but I do. Maybe it's because it stands out from the crowd in terms of variety and quality of menu... and whilst not the cheapest place to eat, feels good enough value. Stylish setting with a small bar at the front for aperetifs.92 High Street, 01628 488544

Bull Inn
A large and pretty special restaurant. Housed in a historic inn dating back centuries, the food is mostly French in influence. Food and wine are fantastic, as is the service. A great place to go for a special occasion. One nice touch was the 'graphic' display of specials shown as we sipped aperitifs in the bar - we were shown plates of raw and fresh ingredients and had explained the various ways we could have them cooked!

The George and Dragon
Restaurant part of the 'Table Table' chain. The 'concept' is that each table is different to all the others, and you pick one suited to your group size and mood. It actually works well, with several alcoves - you certainly don't feel surrounded by other diners. The food is very good value, and is probably the most cost effective eating out in Marlow. Brasserie Gerard
Really good selection of main courses- 8 of us visited with meals ranging from various steaks, salmon, tajines and were enjoyed by all. Starters were equally impressive. Desserts were good, but the selection is perhaps a tad familiar - with the exception of the cheese options, which might be worth a try. Overall a very enjoyable experience, good selection of food, well cooked and presented, and ok value. (31st Aug 2007)21 High Street, 01628 488193 www.brasseriechezgerard.co.uk

The Hand and Flowers
Owner Tom Kerridge has earned the Hand and Flowers a Michelin star - the only one in Marlow. The atmosphere is very cosy - all low beams and candles. The food is simply delicious - I loved the duck and foie gras parfait on toasted brioche starter. Tom has won The Great British Menu TV show 2 years in a row, and both dishes are on the menu here. The 2011 Winner 'Hog Roast' really has to be seen to be believed, and tasted - spectacular stuff.West Street, 01628 482277 www.thehandandflowers.co.uk

The Hare and Hounds
A superb gastro-pub set in a lovely traditional 16th Century building. Run by the same owner as the Two Brewers, and like that establishment is high on atmosphere, food quality, and choice. Our full and detailed review based on a visit soon after opening can be read here. Tasty and filling meals, creative desserts, and a large selection of wines. Decent bar areas too.Henley Road, 01628 483343 www.thehareandhoundsmarlow.co.uk

The Royal Oak
A deservedly popular location for a meal out, and has a good reputation locally (and beyond, I expect). Genuinely friendly staff, and delicious food. At my last visit I was equally happy with the starter of squid 6.50, and then the 21 day aged rib-eye steak 17.75. The Two Brewers
Really good food in a traditional old pub setting. The restaurant part is directly next to the bar area, and overall there is a great atmosphere in the place. For more information, see our blog entry full review of the Two Brewers. If you don't want to read the detail - you just need to know it was very positive, and confirmed the Two Brewers as a favourite place to eat in Marlow! Vanilla Pod
Quite simply our favourite restaurant in Marlow. The food is best described as British with French influences. Owner and head chef Michael Macdonald has had a considerable track record in restaurants of note.. and his skills are best demonstrated in the multi course 'Gourmand Menu'... superb, and certainly worth the 50 a head price. Typical courses include: -Seared Scallops with Tahitian Vanilla poached Pear Puree -Roast Rump of Lamb, Flagolet Puree and Aged Balsamic Jus -Praline Creme Brulee with Baileys Ice Cream31 West Street, 01628 898101 www.thevanillapod.co.uk

Wimpy
McDonalds have tried unsuccessfully to get a restaurant in Marlow, but even if they did, I'd prefer the Wimpy since you get served at the table and can eat off proper plates. And it's freshly cooked to order. And they do puddings.64 High Street, 01628 483501 www.wimpy.uk.com

Thai
Thai Square
Fantastic Thai restaurant, large and contemporary design, with the addition of a small bar serving generously sized cocktails. Most importantly food and service are great - if you are a group of at least 4 the Gold Set Menu is highly recommended, make sure you include the soup - its delicious. To round it off, it was good to see desserts and liqueurs at non rip-off prices!57 West Street, 01628 474416 www.thaisquare.net
