Local cheerleading squad, The Kobika Starlites, (who train on Tuesday evenings at Great Marlow School) are celebrating after winning 11 trophies at the UK Cheerleading association competition, hosted at the Manchester Velodrome, on Saturday 12th May. The whole squad showed extraordinary ability in both the cheerleading and group stunt categories, with 6 of the 11 trophy winners gaining 1st Place.

The annual event saw thousands of cheerleaders from across the UK performing in the presence of National and International judges.

The Kobika Starlite teams compromising of Junior A, Junior B, Seniors and Masters, took part in fourteen routines, which secured six 1st, two 2nd and three 3rd place trophies across the categories. Katie Cobie, head coach, led the team to victory with her impressive choreography and training schedule.

Katie says…. “The cheerleaders have worked extremely hard this year. It is a privilege to work with such motivated, determined young people who are so passionate about their sport. The team have so many creative ideas and work wonderfully together no matter what! They are unbelievably supportive of each other at all times – an inspiration to all! We had such a great day! Safe to say this success was a whole team achievement and would not have been possible without all my fabulous coaches and cheerleaders at my side.”

Even though the team has won an impressive cache of trophies they are not resting on their laurels, they are already back in training and preparing for their next event. You can catch the Kobika Starlites performing at MADD at Waddesdon Manor and The Wycombe Community festival on The Rye this summer!

If you are interested in cheerleading, The Kobika Starlites are always welcoming new recruits – no matter what age (from 6 to 60), or skill!
