Over the weekend, you might have seen the signs near the top of the High Street inviting you in to check out “Zacs”  – the new town centre gym opening up Monday 7th November.

Of course, we were there to check it out too, and had a tour with Zac and his wife Felicity.

The Zacs concept is based on a series of pay as you go classes designed and delivered by Zac Purchase MBE – a qualified Personal Trainer, but until now better know as an Olympic and World Champion Rower!  It is located at 3 High Street – down a walkway next to The Halifax- in a lovely old building.

There are 3 different studios – for yoga, fitness classes and personal training.

Offering classes aimed at everyone, there are no heavy weights, treadmills or machines. The concept of Zacs is that it is built around fitness classes, with no membership fee. The 40 minute, pay-as-you-go classes are just £10 per session, and focus on one of four areas; strength, stamina, speed and stability.

Zac highlighted that the length of the sessions made it ideal to fit in during a lunch break, before work – or of course any other time during the day.

Unlike a traditional gym, there are no mirrors and the focus is on encouraging movement that supports the natural mechanics of the human body.

Zac told us “It is also really important that individuals feel comfortable and welcome.  Many people shy away from traditional gyms because they feel self-conscious and intimidated by the unfamiliar machinery. We want to help people discover the joys and benefits of exercise without feeling any anxiety.”

Classes will be booked and paid for online via the website (zacsfitness.com) with class participants being given a QR code which they show, via their mobile phone, at reception. This is a system designed by Zac and, again, aims to make attending as seamless as possible.

In addition to the 40 minute scheduled classes, Zacs will also offer one to one and small group personal training sessions, yoga, DNA screening and nutritional advice. All services on offer ensure each client’s fitness journey remains motivating and results focused.
