Marlow Town Regatta and Festival is a two day event over the weekend of the 16th and 17th of June 2018. For anyone new to the town or the event, check out our gallery of 2017 photos – it’s a brilliant weekend!
In our first 2018 preview, we are concentrating on Saturday: the traditional rowing regatta and garden party where tickets are required to access the enclosure to watch the rowing and take in the other entertainments including the live music on stage. This year encompasses some exciting changes, so it’s worth a read! Tickets go on sale this Thursday 29th March, or a day earlier for subscribers.
Happy 18th Birthday!
It is 18 years since the original Marlow Regatta moved to Dorney Lake, which led to a group of people getting together to create a new event for us in the town: Marlow Town Regatta and Festival. Nowadays, a volunteer committee of around 20 people meet throughout the year to plan the event, working with Marlow Rowing Club and other partners.
This year, they have planned some changes outlined below, the largest and most exciting of which is the return of the evening concert with headline act being the chart topping Toploader! The concert is on Saturday night instead of the Sunday of a few years back.
Early ticket access for subscribers
Everyone on the subscriber database, ie those who have previously purchased tickets, should have received an email enabling them to buy entry tickets and picnic spaces from 1pm on Thursday 22nd March, 24 hours in advance. They will also be at 2017 prices for this 24 hour period only!
Picnics, Food and Drink
As in previous years, we will be able to book picnic spots to erect our gazebos, and invite our friends to join in. The usual dress code will be in place, giving us the excuse to dress up for the day!
*New for 2018* The layout of the pitches is changing, both accommodating a change in position for the stage, and providing more pitches next to the river (although, as ever these will sell out very quickly!) This is important for anyone who books “the same spot” each year…. it’s all change for 2018!
The brilliant Round Table Bar will be in its usual central position, and also closer to the food outlets, which are being moved from the previous riverside location. More news on food options will come in due course!
Rowing
*New for 2018* The grandstand by the finish line is being re-introduced to provide easier viewing of the rowing, which will start around 7.30am. It’s been missed in recent years by the many guests who want to watch the racing.
*New for 2018* Marlow Rowing Club are leading the way in investing and supporting adaptive rowing – and this year’s event will see adaptive rowing for the first time.
We will see more rowers inside the enclosure in their rowing kit and we will see more rowers being interviewed on stage.
Entertainment – Marlow FM stage until 6pm
*New for 2018* This year will see even closer collaboration with Marlow FM who will host the day’s entertainment on stage, including some exciting new ideas, more of which will be announced in due course. There is an upgraded stage and sound system, featuring a great line up of local bands from 1pm
Entertainment – evening concert to 10pm
All of this bit is *New for 2018*!!
The evening will consist of a separately ticketed event including more great music acts, with a big name headliner in Toploader.
Those that are already going for the day will be able to purchase tickets giving access for the evening too – or you can buy a ticket just to attend the evening concert. There will be no dress code for evening session.
This is a first for the Saturday Regatta, and gives people a chance for the party to continue. It should be a great success!
Car Parking
As usual, cars can be parked near the cricket pitch part of Higginson Park, via pre-booked tickets.
*New for 2018* We can now purchase 2 day parking! I.e. you could drive down on Saturday, then walk home Saturday night, collecting your car on Sunday.
More details to come….
More details will emerge in the coming weeks regarding all aspects of the above, so watch this space!
