The Yew Tree at Frieth

| |

Back in late 2017, the Yew Tree in Frieth reopened its doors after four years of inactivity.  Always keen to find nearby pubs worth a visit, MyMarlow recently popped up there to check it out.

The new owners are local couple Carlos and Joy Maidana, who have lived in Frieth for 17 years, and also run the very popular and award winning Grouse & Ale in Lane End – so they came to this project with a great track record!  Their aim was to create something which would become a social hub for the village, but also offer a friendly welcome to all, and provide a great food offering.

They have done a great job with the interior – check out our photo gallery to get an idea of the style and space. It is certainly larger than we expected – with a front main bar, then tables for dining down one side leading to a lovely bright conservatory at the back.

It was a lovely sunny afternoon, and we chose a selection from the “small plates” (ie tapas ) menu. Tempura squid and blanchbait, Camembert & fig tart, marinated halloumi, gnocchi in Provencal sauce plus a bowl of mussels- it all went down a treat in the fabulous garden. Even the children’s menu was impressive – really tasty fish goujons – not just any old fish fingers!

We loved the food and the setting, and look forward to revisiting to try some of the signature steak, and other meats which are cooked over over charcoal and wood on an Argentinean Parrilla grill – a special feature of the cooking here. We’d definitely recommend paying a visit to check it out for yourselves!

The Yew Tree is open Wednesdays to Sundays for more information, find out more at: www.yewtreefrieth.com
