Marlow Hockey Club come out on top in Croxson Cup

MyMarlow’s coverage of the local Marlow sports is back! starting with details of the fiercely contested Croxson Cup between Marlow and High Wycombe hockey clubs, a competition that has been played annually since 1974. Full reports and details of the return of Marlow sports will commence next week.


With their league programme starting in two weeks, Marlow Men’s 1st have had a very successful series of preseason matches against higher league opposition and after beating Maidenhead and then Staines they beat Oxford University 1 on Saturday at Bisham Abbey 1-0 with Matt Bilsland the goal scorer.

The rest of Saturday’s programme was devoted to the annual Croxson Cup encounter with Wycombe HC involving all available teams from both clubs with the result depending on the total goals scored by each club. With Marlow’s Mens’ and Ladies’ first teams now playing in higher leagues than their opposite numbers they were not involved but a lot of hockey was played involving 22 teams all together.

The results were:-

Marlow 2 v Wycombe 1s 4-1 (W), 
Marlow 3 v Wycombe 2s 1-3 (L), 
Marlow 4 v Wycombe 3s 2-2 (D). 
Marlow 5 v Wycombe 4s 10-1 (W),
Marlow 6 v Wycombe 5s 5-0 (W),
Marlow 7 v Wycombe 6s 1-0 (W)

Marlow 2 v Wycombe 1s 2-5 (L), 
Marlow 3 v Wycombe 2s 2-4 (L),
Marlow 4 v Wycombe 3s 2-0 (W), 
Marlow 5 v Wycombe 4s 6-0 (W).
Marlow 6 v Wycombe 5s 0-5 (L)

The final total was 35 goals to 21 in favour of Marlow who retained the Cup.
