Another week of MyMarlow sports updates from the Marlow sides!

HOCKEY

Marlow Men’s teams

Marlow Men’s 1st team beat Reading 3s away 3-1, making it five wins out of five. They were losing 1-0 at half time and it was the first time that they had been a goal down this season.

In previous seasons they may have lost emotional control, but it’s something the group are working hard to improve and their resilience shone through.

Thanks to their patience and dominant possession game,  Marlow’s goals came in a 6 minute burst, all from open play and securing the three points. Two goals were by Matt Bilsland (pictured above) and the other from Callum White

Marlow Men’s 2nd team had an impressive win at Pound Lane over Oxford Hawks 3 but nobody could have expected the result at the beginning as Hawks pressed hard and produced a series of penalty corners which only good goalkeeping from Will Hunter and a determined defence kept out. That over Marlow went straight down the other end and a neatly taken goal by Ed Dillon opened the floodgates.

Further goals came at regular intervals by Joe Haslehurst (2), Christoper Jackson, Leo Pennant and Dan Field as a result of some fine passing play that opened up the visitors defence time after time. The second half was more even as Hawks pulled two goals back but Marlow were awarded a penalty stroke, converted by Mav Girn and finally a thunderous shot by Dan Field at another corner wrapped the game up 8-2.

Other Men’s results: –

  • The 3rds beat Milton Keynes 3 away 2-1
  • The 4ths drew with BA at home 0-0
  • The 5ths beat Oxford 6s, 3-1 away,
  • The 6ths beat Amersham and Chalfont 6s, 2-1 at home

Marlow Ladies’ teams

Marlow ladies 1st team travelled to Epsom and started strongly despite the pouring rain.  Alex Teasdale opened the scoring for Marlow as she used all her skills to beat the defenders and finally the keeper.  Epsom played some good hockey but were unable to link the final passes together in the Marlow circle.  Marlow continued to dominate in attack, Emily Miskell came close but her shot unfortunately hit the post.  The reds continued to pass really well across the pitch and were rewarded as KT Windsor and Tilly Crampsie both found themselves on the score sheet to make the half-time score 3-0.Epsom came out fighting in the second half and scored to pull a goal back in the first three minutes of the second half. This inspired them to continue to press the Marlow defence and scored a second goal shortly after.  Marlow pulled it back together and Emily Miskell scored her first goal.  Emily scored another belter with a cricket-style shot in the air after a superb run down the right-hand channel and cross by KT Windsor.  Epsom had not given up and scored a goal in the last minute of the game to make the final score 5-3 to Marlow.

Other Ladies’ results: –

  • The Ladies 2s lost away to Reading 3s 5-1 and lost their unbeaten record and place at the top of the league table.
  • The 3s drew 2-2 away with Oxford 4s
  • The 4s drew away with S.Berks 2s 2-2
  • The 5ths lost at home to Wallingford 2s, 3-1
