This weeks sports report focuses on Marlow Hockey Club’s results:

Men’s Teams

Marlow men’s first team continued their great start to the season with a win over Reading2 at Pound Lane.

As they have done every week they made an immediate impact with Callum White scoring his almost inevitable short corner goal after 4 minutes, followed two minutes later by another clever goal by Chris Sewell (see photo). Reading pulled one back with a penalty stroke but Marlow quickly replied with two more goals by Chris Sewell and Cameron Beazley-Clarke.
At 4-1 to the good and with renewed pressure from Marlow it seemed that a large score was inevitable but it was not to be. Lots of possession and too much elaboration in attack did not lead to any further goals and Reading mounted a number of attacks with the Marlow defence dealing with them well and Max Chawner-Davies in goal being forced to make a number of good saves. The final score remained 4-1 with Marlow still in the top spot in the league.

The men’s 2nds travelled to newly promoted Yateley1 and also looking for a third consecutive win. They made a flying start when Jonny Mee latched on to a poor defensive pass before tucking the ball past the keeper. Isaac Maddern was on target next to make it two – nil to Marlow. The home side was able to pull one back via a penalty corner but Marlow moved ahead through a short corner of their own, with Sammy Lee adding to his tally for the season. Yateley responded with another to make it 3-2. Marlow scored their fourth through Lee, with Josh Covus following up to make it 5-2. Dan Field scored a sixth from a penalty corner. The home side scored a consolation goal in the final few minutes and the game finished 6-3 to Marlow.

Ladies Teams

The Ladies 1st team welcomed Oxford to Pound Lane on Saturday and started strongly with many opportunities in their attacking circle. However, the visitors were the first to capitalize and scored a breakaway goal that keeper Alys Ramm could not keep out. Marlow continued to pressure with some fantastic attacking play from Maddy Peacock. The home side were rewarded with a goal from Kiera Allen who deflected an equalizer from a penalty corner 10 minutes into the second half. Marlow kept pressing but were unable to beat the Oxford keeper again, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
