Marlow will be transformed into a twinkling, enchanting wonderland on Thursday, 23rd November, thanks to the switch-on of the Christmas lights by the acclaimed screenwriter and novelist, Robert Thorogood!

Robert, a local resident, and creator of BBC’s “Death in Paradise,” and the author of two best-selling Marlow-based novels, “The Marlow Murder Club” and “Death Comes to Marlow,” will take centre stage in the heart of Marlow for the ceremony.

Robert commented “I’m so excited to be turning on Marlow’s Christmas lights. ‘The Switch On’ is one of the best nights of the year as there’s always such a buzz in the town. I’m a bit overwhelmed, if I’m honest, that I’ve been asked. What an honour.”

The magical moment is scheduled for 6:30 pm, and Robert will perform the illuminating ceremony from an open-top bus stationed outside the Chequers pub in Marlow High Street. The night promises even more enchantment as ‘snow’ will start falling at 6:00 pm, setting the stage for a captivating evening. The streets will come alive with the melodious sound of carols and festive music while stilt walkers, decked out in red and white, will strut the streets as Mother Christmas, a towering candy cane, Nutcracker soldiers, and a magnificent snow queen.

Marlow’s Town Mayor, David Brown, shared his excitement, saying, “We are absolutely delighted to have Robert Thorogood as our special guest to illuminate our beautiful town. His passion for Marlow is evident to all. Who knows, our event might just become the inspiration for his next best-seller!”

For the event’s smooth execution, the High Street will be closed to traffic from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, ensuring that everyone can safely enjoy this magical moment in Marlow.

Mark your calendars and join Robert Thorogood at Marlow’s Christmas lights switch-on event!
