Today saw the official opening of the Roger Gracie Academy in Marlow, creating a huge and welcoming space for training in Roger Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Genesis Kickboxing. Located Globe Park, next the Marlow Club, it’s the new home for the long established Genesis Gym, founded by lifelong Marlow resident Paul Busby.
The brand new, state of the art venue is just across the road from where Paul has been running Genesis for 15 years. He told us that with 500 members, they were bursting at the seams and desperate for a new venue. The new venue was built as a warehouse, and Paul had kept his eye on it over the years in case it became available, knowing it would be perfect with plenty of space, windows and parking.
After a lot of hard work, and overcoming many obstacles, the Academy is open! Paul cut the ribbon, and then member and local resident Ross Kemp gave a short speech on what the centre meant to him, the members and the wider local area.
Set over 2 floors, it is the largest Jiu Jitsu centre in the UK, and the largest combat centre in the South East. All are welcome to train, and members range from young children making their first foray into the sports up to world champions.

The centre is linked to Roger Gracie, considered one of the greatest Brazilian jiu-jitsu exponents, and a member of the family that created it – making it a truly prestigious place to train in BJJ.
We were highly impressed by the centre, the result of Paul’s dedication and determination to create a world class venue, but at the same time being very welcoming to all, and a real community asset.
