Bryan Ferry comes to the rescue!

Today, Saturday 25th April saw the official launch of the ferry service at Temple.

As most of you will know, Temple Bridge was closed back in May 2023 and has now been partly dismantled. Progress to repair, replace or even simply investigate has been frustratingly slow, so walkers, runners and cyclists have been unable to cross the river at that point.

Step forward Justin Whelan, who has launched “Bryan Ferry the Ferry” to come to our aid! Since first having the idea, it has taken some while to get the boat operational, with various mechanical and other issues. After much effort from Justin, the solar powered boat is now ready in perfect time for summer 2026!

After trial runs over the past week, today saw the official launch, with ribbon cutting by Marlow’s Mayor Muryel Boulay. MyMarlow was there to take photos, and indeed join the first customers of the day to make use of the ferry, and cross the river at that point for the first time in 3 years! 🎉🥳

The key details:

  • Operates Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday 10am to 4pm (may do more in summer holiday etc)
  • £2.50 Adults, £1.50 Children – cash or card
  • Bikes allowed – max 4 per trip (FOC at time of writing)
  • Likewise, up to 4 dogs permitted per crossing.

Note that the Ferry cannot operate in high winds over 35mph wind speed and when the river is showing red warning flags (for fast flow).
