On Sunday 21 June 2015, Marlow will host the start of the final stage of the Women’s Tour of Britain cycling event. There will be a cycling festival taking place in Higginson Park on the same day with lots of free activities for the whole family to take part in.
Last year’s Tour included athletes such as Laura Trott and Lizzie Armistead and this year too will no doubt attract some of the World’s top female racers.
The 102-kilometre, 64-mile, final stage will start from Marlow’s High Street at 11am, heading off along the Henley Road, past Danesfield to Mill End, then up through the Hambleden Valley then onwards towards its conclusion in Hemel Hempstead at around 2pm. The stage will also feature two intermediate Sprints and two Queen of the Mountain climbs, with the locations of these to be announced in the coming weeks.
Highlights of the race will be shown on ITV4 that evening, and repeated the following morning.
16 teams from nine different countries will take part in the 2015 Friends Life Women’s Tour, including 12 of the world’s top 15 ranked teams, led by the team of defending champion Marianne Vos, Rabo Liv. In total 96-riders will take part in the race, with the identities of the riders being announced during April and May.
