MyMarlow Sports Roundup 19-11-18

| |

Here’s another MyMarlow Monday sports Round-up, and it’s been quite the weekend indeed for the majority of the Marlow sides.

Football

Marlow FC logoIt was another fantastic week for Marlow FC, as their victory over Hayes and Yeading United sent them to the top of the Bostik South Central division

The Blue’s came out 2-1 winners in what proved to be a tough test for both sides.

Isaac Osei-Tutu broke the deadlock after 37 minutes when he forced the ball in following a Marcus Mealing cross, much to the delight of the home crowd.

However, Hayes were level just nine minutes after half-time, with a clever finish from Culley over Simon Grant in the Marlow goal.

But the blue’s ‘keeper wasn’t to be beaten again in this match – brilliantly denying Scott Bridges from the penalty spot with less than ten minutes to play.

And a vital save it was because with less than two minutes to play Alan Bossman fired home the winner to extend Marlow’s unbeaten run to seven in all competitions as well as seeing the Blue’s lead the way at the top of the table.

Marlow FC are in action again in the league on Saturday against Ashford Town

Marlow United logoMarlow United will have some rustiness to shake off as they take on a Marlow FC XI tomorrow night in a friendly local derby.

United, who have an important BTC Senior Cup fixture against Burghfield this weekend, will want to use tomorrow to keep match sharpness up, while Marlow FC will be looking to do the same ahead of their game against Ashford on Saturday.

The match kicks off a 19:45 at The Alfred Davis Memorial Ground on Tuesday evening.

Rugby

Marlow 1st XV pulled out a fantastic 18-15 win over Buckinghamshire in the South West Division.

Marlow may have been two spots below their opponents in the league table but showed that they were more than a match, coming out winners in the close-fought match.

The Marlow 2s also tasted victory with a comfortable 42-14 victory away to Redingensians IV – in what was a brilliant weekend for all the Marlow RFC sides.

The 3s were, unfortunately, let down this week but luckily High Wycombe RUFC came to their aid and organised a match between the two sides.

If you are interested in getting involved in Rugby, Marlow boys U15s are currently looking for more players – to get more details contact the club via their website.

Hockey

Marlow Ladies 1s held on to the top spot after their 1-1 draw with Havant Ladies’ 1s at the weekend, while the 2s came out 2-1 winners over Oxford Ladies 2s.

The U14 Girls B drew 2-2 away to Reading and Marlow Ladies’ 3s rounded off a good weekend for the Ladies of Marlow Hockey Club as they produced a fantastic display to beat Banbury ladies 2s 4-1.

The news wasn’t as good for the men, as Marlow lost 4-2 to OMT in a tight encounter while the U16 boys narrowly lost 3-2 to Cheltenham.

And Finally

It’s not every day that you come across a lock full of rowers but if you were around at the weekend you would have seen just that! Juniors from the Marlow Rowing Club were out about out in force keeping up the training that has seen them have a strong year so far.
