PilaYoga launches at The Marlow Club!

Last week, MyMarlow was invited along to celebrate the launch of PilaYoga – a dedicated Yoga and Pilates studio based at The Marlow Club.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by guests of honour Professor Greg Whyte OBE (Physical Activity Expert, Sports Scientist and Celebrity Trainer)  and Marlow’s Mayor, Cllr. Chris Funnell.

Professor Greg Whyte said: “PilaYoga offers Marlow something completely new. We all lead busy lives, but it is incredibly important that we prioritise activities which promote mental and physical health. PilaYoga is a beautiful space which will offer the very best in holistic experiences. I can’t wait to get in and give it a go!”

Works began on the creation of PilaYoga in September 2018. Jon Williams, COO at The Marlow Club, explains: “Over the last few years there has been a steady increase in the demand for a more holistic fitness and wellbeing offer. The Club timetable offers a good selection of yoga and Pilates classes, but we identified an opportunity to create a bespoke environment where people can enjoy a totally immersive experience and completely switch off from the hustle and bustle of day to day life. This is exactly what we have created at PilaYoga.”

Served by a dedicated entrance, PilaYoga is integrated into The Marlow Club but also operates as a standalone facility, with its own identity and membership. In addition to a large studio which will host a wide array of mat based yoga and Pilates classes, PilaYoga also incorporates a second studio, dedicated to Reformer Pilates.

Jon added: “Reformer Pilates is a dynamic and intense experience which uses specialist equipment to apply resistance.  It is a discipline favoured by many high profile individuals such as Jennifer Anniston, Madonna and The Duchess of Sussex and is often considered to be more dynamic and intense than its mat based counterpart. PilaYoga houses a number of reformer beds and is the only facility in the town to offer this form of training.”

In addition to the creation of PilaYoga, The Marlow Club has also undergone an extensive transformation. The ladies changing facilities have been upgraded to offer a more luxurious experience and the lounge and café area has been completely refurbished to reflect a new, healthy menu serving eat-in and takeout food, all day. In the gym, a functional training space has been incorporated and two therapy rooms have been added.

Mayor of Marlow, Cllr. Chris Funnell, told us:  “The Marlow Club has been playing an integral role in our community for many years in promoting activities for the importance of health . PilaYoga brings something completely new to the town and the community objectives of bringing a variety of sports and health offerings that compliment and promote a holistic approach to fitness of body and mind leading to improved mental health.  The modernised facilities on offer at The Marlow Club and this recent investment ensures that the club will continue to grow the health, fitness and wellbeing needs of residents and workers for many years to come and we welcome this new initiative to the town.”
