My Marlow Sport Report 3-5-19

| |

It’s been another busy week in Marlow sports as we re-cap all the goings on.

Football

Marlow FC logoIt was heartache for Mark Bartley’s Marlow FC on Tuesday night as their season came to at the hands of Cheshunt in the Bostik Central play-off semi-final.

Marlow started the game brightly and probably should have had a penalty early on after a Cheshunt defender seemed to push Isaac Osei-Tutu as he was about to pull the trigger, but the referee waved play on.

The Blues did break the deadlock though, with Kameron English popping up to apply the finishing touches before the half-hour mark.

Marlow continued to create chances but could not double their lead and, in the end, it would come back to haunt them as Cheshunt scored twice in six second half minutes to get the win.

It puts an end to an impressive season for the Blues, who were the only side to beat runaway league leaders Hayes and Yeading home and away, while also pushing hard for second spot in the table.

Marlow FC girls are in for a busy May which starts this weekend as they prepare for a crunch-match in the county cup final.

The clubs under 14s will take on Tilehurst in the Berks and Bucks Country Cup final on Sunday, May 5. The kick-off is scheduled for 11am at Adams Park, home of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club. The coaches and all the parents wish the girls every success for Sunday.

Following that Marlow Girls will also be hosting their first ever tournament on Saturday May 11th at Marlow FC, Oak Tree Road, Marlow, SL7 3ED.

The tournament is scheduled to kick-off at 10am but will be confirmed later this week.

Hockey

Marlow Hockey club logoMarlow GU12 qualified for the National Finals last weekend with a runners-up spot in the South Regional competition. After navigating a tough pool, they went on to win their Quarter final against Wimbledon and beat Dragons in the semi-final. An exciting final had Marlow open the scoring with a very well worked penalty corner, but they just lost out to a late goal to end the game 3-2 to Surbiton. They all showed great determination with some fantastic hockey played and are now very excited about playing in the National finals in May and have recently acquired a new sponsor. The girls have been generously sponsored by Superstars, a local Marlow based company.
