With 12 of Marlow Hockey Club’s teams playing last Saturday it was a day of mixed fortunes for Marlow Hockey Club.

The men’s 1st team were up against a very strong Reading 2nd team at Sonning and lost for the first time this season going down 4-1. Marlow’s consolation goal came from Charlie Thrush. Marlow2 had a very close game at home against Oxford2. 2-1 down at half time having survived a lot of pressure thanks to some stout defence and good work from goalkeeper Will Hunter, things changed in the second half with Matt Ashton having a storming game in midfield. Dan Field scored his second goal and Marlow did enough to win , even missing a penalty stroke, but the game ended 2 all. It was a fair result and both sides should do well this season.

Other men’s results were:-

  • Marlow 3 lost 2-1 away to Wycombe 3.
  • the 4th team lost 2-1 home to Eastcote 4,
  • the 5ths lost 5-2 away to Reading University 5,
  • The Strollers (veterans) drew 1-1 with Purley veterans.

The Ladies first team lost at home 2-1 to Witney in a close match and the seconds drew 0-0 at home to Wallingford 1 and moved second in their league.

  • 3rd team drew 1-1 with Oxford University 2 at home,
  • 4ths drew 0-0  with Milton Keynes 2s at home,
