HOCKEY

Marlow Men’s teams

With lady’s leagues having a day off due to half term holidays the hockey this week involved only the men’s section of Marlow Hockey Club.

The first team played Aylesbury at home and going by their league positions a comfortable win might have been on the cards. That seemed to be likely when they scored in the first minute. However, Aylesbury came back with an equaliser and Marlow responded with two more goals to be in the lead at half time. Marlow scored another to go  4-1 up but then went off the boil and Aylesbury scored twice making the final score 4-3. The way Marlow did not push on when in a dominant position was disappointing but on the positive side all their four excellent goals were scored from open play. Gary Goodman bagged two of them with Matt Bilsland and young Leo Pennant who scored the first minute goal and showed a lot of promise for the futureIn the league Marlow remain in third place one point behind Amersham & Chalfont who had a notable win over the leaders Reading 2s.

Marlow 2s travelled to runaway league leaders Sonning 1st. Availability forced a number of changes to the side and Marlow struggled to settle, conceding two goals in the opening ten minutes. James Ashburner pulled one back with a stunning strike. Despite continuing to create opportunities, Marlow were vulnerable on the counter attack and Sonning added two more goals before half time. Another three goals followed in the second half to finish 7-1.

Other Men’s results: –

  • 3rd team lost 3-0 at home to Amersham & Chalfont 2
  • 4th team lost away to Gerrards Cross 1s 3-1
  • 5th team beat Phoenix & Ranelagh 2 at home 6-2
  • 6th team lost away to OMT 4s 1-0
