Due to the cessation of activity at Marlow Rugby club, they have taken it upon themselves to release this statement in regard to support they can offer the community in managing the implications from COVID-19:
Marlow Rugby Club Covid -19 Community Support
In light of Government and Health England advice and consistent with The Rugby Football Union direction, we have suspended all playing and social activity at our clubhouse in Riverwoods, Marlow. Whilst we are asking our members to remain fit and comply with medical guidance to help minimise the spread of Covid-19, we would like to ensure that we are doing our best to support others in Marlow at this time. As part of our long-term Vision for the club, we want to ensure that Marlow Rugby Club is positioned to be an effective community hub for local residents.
Whilst the implications of Covid-19 are not fully known to any of us, we believe that we can divert our energies to support those in genuine need over the coming weeks and months.
As such, we are offering two elements of support to the Marlow community in order to help the collective effort to manage the current pandemic
- We have a number of volunteers already identified that are available to support the elderly or vulnerable in the Marlow community. By contacting us via marketing@marlowrugby.co.uk we can arrange for transportation of provisions or general support where appropriate for those most in need.
- During the period of suspension of rugby activities we’d also like to offer use of our facilities to community support groups, medical responders and other emergency services, response command and control teams or civic bodies involved in the effort to fight this pandemic
The facilities at Riverwoods include:
- Function and Changing rooms
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Ample parking
- Male and Female toilets
- Disabled access and toilets
Club Chairman Jeremy Povey said “As our players and members come to terms with the fact that sporting activities have been suspended, the collective attention has quickly turned to how we can use our resources to support members of the community that are most affected by this pandemic. We have manpower and we have facilities that we can redeploy. This will be a tough period of for everyone. Teamwork is engrained in our ethos and we are ready to assist that bigger team that is the Marlow community”
Marlow Rugby Club wants to do its best to keep our community safe in extraordinary times and provide support in the form of volunteers and our facility, where appropriate.
All enquiries for support should be addressed to marketing@marlowrugby.co.uk
Yours Sincerely
Marlow Rugby Club Committee
