Marlow Hockey Club

After ideal weather last week, all the matches on Saturday were played in pouring rain and that caused the men’s 3rd team playing at Milton Keynes to have their match abandoned with standing water on the pitch, after leading 3-2 with 15 minutes to go.

The men’s first team were at Oxford against the University 2nd team and with early goals from Charley Hunter and Sam North were well placed at half time and with another outstanding goal soon afterwards by Callum White it all seemed plain sailing but the home side pulled two back. However, two more Marlow goals by Chris Sewell and Mav Girn saw Marlow home 5-2.

Meanwhile at Marlow the Mens 2s proved far too good for Oxford 2s and ran out winners 9-0. Oxford had no answer to Marlow’s passing and all round play. It was one way traffic from beginning to end, Dan Field scored the first two, the first from a clever corner routine and he scored again before the interval by which time Marlow were six up. The other goalscorers were Anthony Williamson, Tom O’Docherty, John Butt, Matt Sell, Jonny Mee and Jack Lee

The ladies 1st team playing away had new opponents in Havant. Marlow started well and Kiera Foster earned a penalty stroke which she converted with confidence. She added her second in the 25th minute with a rocket of a strike from the top of the circle. Havant came back into the game after halftime and scored a goal from a penalty corner. Marlow continued to defend their lead until the final whistle blew. It was a good 3 points in the conditions. The second team were at home to Wallingford 1s and had a hard-fought match which ended in a 2-2 draw.
