Results for November 13th from Marlow Hockey Club:

Ladies Results

The ladies 1st team met another new opponent in Fareham1 at home and had a close game which ended in a 4-3 victory after Marlow had gone 3-1 up at halftime. Their goals were scored by Kerri Smith 2 and Jane Smith. Fareham fought back with another goal before Kerri completed her hat trick and Fareham had enough time to pull back the score to 4-3. This win moves Marlow up to second in the league.

The 2nd team won 4-1 away at Newbury and Thatcham, 1dominating the game and setting the pace from the start and quickly saw their efforts pay off after Helena Sykora scored her first goal to take them 1-0 up. Newbury retaliated to level the game but Marlow resettled and refocused and a further 2 goals were scored by Helena to take Marlow into the 2nd half 3-1 up. The 2nd half saw some strong attacking play by both teams but Marlow once again asserted their strength to finish the game with an extra goal by Estelle Palmer.”

Other ladies results. Ladies 3rd team beat Yately1 away 5-1, 4s beat Oxford Hawks 5s 1-0, 5s beat Phoenix & Ranelagh2 1-0 away, 6s beat S. Berks4 1-0, 7s beat Slough5 away 6-0. The ladies results overall make a clean sweep with 7 victories from 7 matches.

Men’s Results

The Men’s 1st team met other new opponents when they went to play Havant2, whose youngsters were a challenge with their fitness levels. It hindered Marlow’s ability to control the game with a number of unforced errors occurring for the visitors. Having taken an early lead through Chris Sewell back from injury. Marlow were pegged back in the 29th minute but quickly responded through Callum White from a penalty corner who scored again a minute later to lead 3-1 at halftime. It was an even match from that point with Havant scoring and then another goal from Chris Sewell on the 57th minute. After that Marlow’s tactical experience shone through and a switch in shape saw Marlow dominate for the last 15mins to seal the win. Marlow’s nearest league rivals Oxford Hawks2 also won and stay two points behind at the top of the league which makes next Saturdays match at 3 pm between the two sides at Pound Lane a very inviting prospect

The 2nd XI hosted Oxford Hawks 3rd XI. After an 8-2 win 12-months ago, Marlow were looking to pick up some more points. The squad was well prepared by coach Tess Howard and the structure was clear. Marlow’s passing was hit and miss at times but it was enough to gradually build play and to create some half chances. However, it was Hawks who opened the scoring with a breakaway attack. The reds battled and despite being 1-0 down at half time, felt that the game was there to win. Despite chances for Marlow, it was Hawks who got the next goal. Marlow pushed and had a series of penalty corner opportunities but could not convert.

Other men’s results:- The 3rd team beat Eastcote3 3-0. 4s drew 2-2 with Tring1 away, 5s beat Oxford 5 1-0,

6s drew with Amersham & Chalfont6 away 1-1, 7s beat Wallingford5 4-3aul,
