Back in March 2022 we confirmed the long held rumours that the Wetherspoons pub chain had acquired a site in Marlow – the building where M&Co clothes shop is situated.
Now things have got a lot more “real”, with a comprehensive planning application submitted for “Change of use from Retail to Public House / Restaurant together with alterations to front and rear elevations, first floor extension and external terrace to rear.”
The application reveals the proposed name to be “The Brass Thimble”, and if given the go ahead will result in a huge new pub in central Marlow. An image from the publicly viewable plans give some idea of the internal size, and sheer volume of seats – plus a small beer garden at the back.
The proposals suggest that the pub would create proximately 50 to 60 full and part time jobs, and “be beneficial to the vitality and viability of the Town Centre and whose customers are likely to undertake linked trips with other services and facilities”
The proposed opening hours are:
Sunday – Thursday: 07:00 – 00:00
Friday – Saturday: 07:00 – 01:00
The planning application refers to the “former M&Co”, although at time of writing the shop is still open of course. It also notes that the existing first floor part of the building occupied by GMTW Architects will remain unaffected.
