Great result for Marlow in Gastropub awards

| |

Last week, winners of the Top 50 Gastropubs awards, sponsored by Estrella Damm, were announced and Marlow was very well represented in the lists!

Tom Kerridge’s three establishments all placed

  • 8th place for Tom’s two Michelin starred The Hand & Flowers
  • 15th place for his one Michelin starred The Coach,
  • The Butcher’s Tap & Grill was at number 57 in the extended list of 100.

Tom Kerridge said “I am so proud of my team, I see all the hard work, drive and determination behind the scenes and I know each and every one of them deserve this recognition. To have three of my pubs in the top 100 and two in the top 20, all in Marlow is a very special thing indeed.”

Tom De Keyser of The Hand & Flowers is “Chef of the Year”!

Tom De Keyser, the Head Chef of The Hand & Flowers was awarded ‘Chef of the Year’ – what an achievement to be singled out in this way! MyMarlow has known Tom since his days at The Coach, and we are thrilled for him.

Tom said “When I took over the kitchen at The Hand & Flowers I knew the incredibly high standards required, the level of innovation and creativity needed to maintain the legacy of this iconic pub. I am thrilled to be ‘Chef of the Year’, what an honour and something that my team will share with me. I am still buzzing and incredibly grateful to be recognised in this way.”

The Oarsman – Best Newcomer

This is a great achievement for the pub- there is only one “best newcomer” declared in the list, and The Oarsman is it!

The judges noted “The venue has a strong environmental ethos and supports local suppliers where possible in a bid to serve the finest, seasonal produce with mains starting from about £16……. All in all, a spectacular pub, with an extensive and interesting wine offer, which complements its high quality, delectable dishes, while remaining at the heart of the customers it serves.”

James McLean who runs the Oarsman with Nigel Sutcliffe told us : “It has taken a great team of people who have all contributed to the success of The Oarsman over the past year, we are incredibly proud of all they do and how hard they have all worked. After all… ‘If you don’t row, the boat don’t go…’ We also hugely appreciate our wonderful customers for their support and custom… We can’t wait to see them all again very soon! “

Congratulations to the teams behind all these achievements, and thanks for what you add to Marlow’s vibrancy and reputation for great food!
