Burford schoolchildren raise funds for Cancer Research

Mrs Marshall, Headteacher of Burford School & Nursery in Marlow Bottom, received a mature and heartfelt letter from four boys in Year 5 asking if they could be involved in raising money for Cancer Research – a request which Mrs Marshall and the whole school were delighted to support!

As part of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week earlier this month, Jude, Ollie, Lucas and Theo decided to organise a lunchtime fun run to promote physical wellbeing to support mental health and raise money for Cancer Research all at the same time.

The boys, along with Burford’s Y6 Playground Leaders and staff, led an amazing fun run which raised a whopping £2,187 + £475.50 Gift Aid!  This was an incredible result considering they were hoping to raise a modest £200.

Mrs Marshall said, “I could not be more proud of our children at Burford School, who not only know what our Burford values stand for, but live by them.  A super effort from Jude, Ollie, Lucas, Theo and everyone else who took part in the fun run.  A huge big thank you to all the parents, carers and wider community for their kind donations, messages of support and encouragement towards this charity fundraiser.”

Each class from Reception to Year 6 ran 9 laps of the ball court, or half a mile, with Mr Mettler, Burford’s Sports’ Coach keeping everyone’s enthusiasm and energy levels up by playing music and encouraging the children to keep going.  A fantastic effort from Team Burford!
