The Oarsman in Marlow under new ownership

MyMarlow recently reported that The Oarsman will be reopening soon, under new ownership. We can now share more details, and it all sounds very exciting!

The Oarsman in Marlow will re-open its doors in September under the new ownership of trufflehunting.co.uk duo Nigel Sutcliffe and James Mclean.

Located on Spittal Street, The Oarsman will be a perfect place to meet for drinks as the spacious bar area can welcome 50 guests. Furthermore, the Bistro will house up to 50 people and the covered outside space will have relaxed seating areas suitable for all weathers with blankets for the cooler evenings, as well as tables for eating.

Highly respected figures in the industry, Nigel and James have worked together for over 20 years and have seen great success in their respective roles.

Most recently, Nigel has worked with Heston Blumenthal and the Fat Duck Group and previously managing director of The Crazy Bear Group.   James started his career winning Young Chef of the Year and has held positions at some of the countries most prestigious restaurants. He has a great understanding of pub culture and the pair currently work alongside the team at The Crown at Bray and they have steered the pub through the last 2 years to ensure it continues to be a successful favourite.

The Oarsman will have some subtle changes before re-opening, including an open kitchen that will be visible for guests to see the chefs create and produce the most delicious dishes.

Nigel and James have recruited a great Chef and Sous Chef for their new team and are looking for GM/Sommelier over the coming weeks.  Committed to offering the very best training support, they will ensure they lead them to deliver excellent service and knowledge of the product.

Using established local suppliers, the seasonal menu will rely on the best produce available and there will be tasting evenings to showcase the best of this.  There will also be wine flight suggestions for those who might like to be steered to try something new to complement the dishes and this too will change to suit the seasons and ingredients.

Renowned for his knowledge of the wine industry, Nigel is creating an award winning wine list which will include favorites as well as the more unusual finds.

Commenting on the acquisition of The Oarsman, Nigel said ‘James and I are delighted that we will be re-opening such a fantastic property in the coming months. We have some exciting plans for guests and hope that we can bring something to Marlow that compliments the existing offering. We rely on our local audience and can’t wait to welcome them as soon as we are ready to.’

The bar and restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner as well as drinks. Keep up to date with news on @theoarsmanmarlow and for information visit https://theoarsman.co.uk
