The “Coxless Crew” are 4 women who will be rowing the South Pacific Ocean in April 2015, from America to Australia – that’s 8,446 miles, and will take about 6 months! In doing so, their goals is to be:
* First all female team to row the Pacific Ocean.
* First ever team of four to row the Pacific Ocean.
* Fastest ever Pacific Ocean row.
One of the crew, Emma Mitchell is from Marlow, and a member of Marlow Rowing Club – so yesterday Emma and her crew bought their custom built boat named “Doris” to Marlow. They spent the day in Higginson Park talking to passers by about the challenge, and raising awareness of the fund-raising aspect.
They were joined by a whole range of rowing greats to show their support – Marlow’s Paralympian Gold Medallist Naomi Riches (who took some of these photos) , plus Olympians Katherine Grainger, Heather Stanning, Beth Rodford, and Sarah Winckless.
In undertaking this epic challenge, they will be raising funds for two charities – Walking With the Wounded and Breast Cancer Care survivors. They are selling ‘miles’ for £10, and each donor will have their named inscribed on the ‘inspiration wall’ inside their boat. For more info, visit coxlesscrew.com/buy-a-mile
