You know it’s a bit cold right now? It was also very cold last Friday night when a number of intrepid and caring individuals slept outside All Saints church in Marlow to raise awareness and funds (via sponsorship) for the Wycombe Homeless Connection charity.
Wycombe Homeless Connection helps homeless people rebuild their lives, serving around 400 single adult homeless or vulnerably housed individuals each year.
Participants included members of All Saints church, teenagers from River Church, pupils from Great Marlow and Borlase, and some even younger children – the youngest was 11.
Each person had to build a cardboard shelter, and was fed from a a soup kitchen that had been set up. A campfire was lit and there was a presentation on homelessness by the charity.
Then it was a case of trying to get some sleep – many didn’t manage to get any at all!
You can still show your support by donating. Councillor (and ex-Mayor) Suzanne Brown was one of the participants , and told us “I didn’t sleep a wink, I had no idea how noisy the bridge and the park could be!” At the time of writing Suzanne is very close to her £1000 fundraising target.
