EXCLUSIVE: Sun Ya talks to MyMarlow about closure… with a TWIST!

| | , , ,

Sun Ya regulars may have learned already that the much loved Chinese restaurant will be closing on 4th May 2019.

It’s truly the end of an era, and sad news for all of us who have enjoyed the Sun Ya team’s cuisine over the years, so we thought it was important to share the full story from the man himself, Kim Lai.

A bit of local history… Kim’s father Peter Lai came to Marlow from Hong Kong in 1964, and opened the Sun Ya in Quoiting Square. The restaurant continued to operate from the same premises and is one of the very few long-established restaurants in the town. The original menu was a selection of Cantonese and English food, and over time the menu became exclusively Chinese.

In the mid-1990s Peter retired, Kim took the helm, and he and his wife have managed the restaurant ever since.

“It’s been our pleasure and privilege to serve the people of Marlow for five and a half decades”, says Kim. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers, many of whom have been with us since the beginning in 1964. We shall miss you all!”

Kim explains that it is due to increasingly demanding family commitments that they have made this difficult decision, BUT…

…as one door closes, another opens: MyMarlow can reveal that during the past year the family have been planning an exciting new venture which will launch soon!

“We hope we can look forward to the town’s continued approval and support”.

We at MyMarlow will absolutely get behind Kim and his family and we can’t wait to reveal their next business venture:
