Marlow United 4 – Woodley United Royals 2
Marlow United’s 2-0 win over Burghfield last Saturday meant that the Flying Blues were all but confirmed as Thames Valley Premier League champions going into this evening’s match against Woodley United Royals.
Only a loss by 19 goals (yes, 19!) could have prevented James Pritchard’s men from failing to retain the top spot, and given the amazing run of form that was never really a possibility – United were on a 9 match winning streak going into tonight’s game.
So, in reality the match was something of a “coronation”, and the flying Blues wrapped up the title in style. Marlow went ahead thank to a Shane Cooper Clarke goal after 20 minutes, but Woodley responded with 2 goals before half time. The visitors stayed ahead until Darren Rockell equalized on 85 minutes, the start of an astonishing finale seeing Marlow finish 4-2 thanks to Chris Hurst on 91 minutes, and Shane Cooper Clarke again on 96 minutes!!
United have been soaring in recent weeks, and have even more to look forward to this season. After today’s final league game they have two more pieces of silverware up for grabs as they take on Old Bradwell United this weekend in one cup competition as well as another cup final against Mortimer FC on May 8th.
Manager James Pritchard told MyMarlow “We wanted to make a few changes, to rotate the squad given the games ahead, and following the tough game last Saturday – but we still proved we had the ammunition to get us over the line which is fantastic”
Many congratulations to the team, who are crowned as Thames Valley Premier League Champions for the second time in 4 years
