Marlow Rock Bottom 2019 went off a treat – a great family atmosphere, good music and glorious sunshine!

Team MyMarlow was there in force to enjoy the day.  Photographer Neil Venison was there from start to finish, check out the gallery below – with additional photos by Archie Smith. Meanwhile Kelly Horner was there as a first timer, and gives us her views from the perspective of a “newbie”

The Newbie Review

This was your roving MyMarlow reporter’s first family festival experience, with our two boys aged six and nine, and it was an ideal introduction for us all.

Rock Bottom 2019 was hosted effortlessly all day by MarlowFM‘s Dave “The Disco” Pering and Sarah-Jane Dale aka “SJ The Ceefax“. We were treated to a variety of acts ranging from delightfully cheesy pop to soul, ska, Britpop and some fantastic covers and original tunes in between.

The site’s layout was especially great for families; we could let the boys explore and feel free, then safely come back to base. They loved the fairground rides, Katy Kartwheel‘s circus skills area, and basically dancing all day in the sunshine to a wonderfully varied mix of Abba, Oasis, Blur, Chaka Khan, The Stereophonics…

One rookie error was to forget blankets or warmer clothing for the boys as the evening chill set in, so we didn’t manage to stay for U2Baby or the headliner, Queen tribute band Majesty, which we were gutted about! Sadly, once your children get tired and cold no amount of cajoling will convince them to stay. Luckily, all four of us had had a fantastic time and we’d particularly enjoyed Grooveline’s funky band and pitch perfect harmonies, and Interkoola’s energy and showmanship.

MyMarlow verdict? 10/10, would recommend… and if you go next year DO pack a picnic, chairs, cash and factor 50, and DON’T forget the blankets for when the sun goes down!

Check out our Events calendar which is continuously updated with everything going on in and round Marlow!
