McMullen Brewery, which owns Baroosh has put in a planning application for external changes which makes clear an intended rebranding. The plans include detailed images revealing a proposed new name…. “The Duke of Clarence”

A main sign proposed for eye level outside is very much in line with this very traditional pub name, in its imagery and font styles.
It certainly is a change of style for the exterior, and we wonder what that means for the interior , if anything.
We would assume an interior refurb would follow, but we will keep you posted on that count!

Specifically, the plans, as shown in these images from the publicly accessible planning application include:
- installation of new signage and related lighting
- Infill of ground floor window (in the unused door)
- window box planters
The application notes that “The proposed advertisements have been designed to be of high quality and to achieve a balance between preserving the historic environment and promoting the presence of the intended occupant. “
Marlow’s first Duke….

Marlow already has a Duke pub of course, in the “Duke at Marlow“, previously known as the Duke of Cambridge. So be prepared for confusion when arranging to meet someone “at the Duke”!!
