Marlow residents trial world’s first Zero-Emission Boiler

| |

Local residents Ben and Lucy, of Marlin Court in Marlow, have become the first ever household
in the world to trial a Zero Emission Boiler (ZEB™).

The ZEB – invented by tepeo ltd, based in Maidenhead – will deliver the same performance as an ordinary boiler but will run on low-carbon electricity. Not only that, but the design of the ZEB includes highly compact built-in heat storage and intelligent controls so that the electricity needed to charge it can be consumed at the cheapest and greenest times of the day – the energy is then efficiently stored until needed.

Ben and Lucy will trial this exciting new ‘green’ boiler over the winter and help tepeo develop the product ready for sale in 2021.

Ben, 30, who works as a Mechanical Assembler for tepeo and is a keen environmentalist, said
“This was my grandmother’s home until last month, so we have nicknamed the new boiler
‘Barbara’ in her honour – like the boiler, she is also a bit of a pioneer! Barbara the boiler will ensure that our winter heating will be emission-free, improving the local air quality for the benefit of ourselves and our neighbours – and we look forward to helping to develop the product so that it works really well for future customers.”

Johan du Plessis, CEO of tepeo said “We have been developing this boiler for about two
years so I am absolutely delighted to have installed our first trial unit. It is no surprise to me that
our first trialists hail from the wonderful town of Marlow! We are going to run our boiler alongside
the existing boiler, switching between the two, so that we can compare their performance.
The bespoke technology inside our boiler will learn the usage habits in the house and adjust the
charging and discharging of the unit accordingly, which will manage the electricity cost and
carbon footprint down to the lowest possible for Ben and Lucy. Decarbonising domestic heating
will be a big part of the UK’s journey to net zero emissions by 2050 and we hope our boilers will
play a key part in meeting that challenge.”

Other houses sought for trials….

If you are interested in being a guinea-pig for these new boilers, tepeo is looking for
other local 2/3 bedroom houses to take trial ZEBs over winter and into 2021. Anyone interested
in participating in the trial can visit www.tepeo.com for more details.
