Marlow has a new cafe The Ark! It opens today at the front of Marlow Methodist Church, incorporating a brand new extension to the church.
The cafe will initially be open Monday – Friday 9am-2pm.
The Ark is a “community café”, envisaged as a safe space for the Marlow community to come together, irrespective of background. The cafe is also committed to minimising its environmental impact, and will be sourcing locally wherever possible – for example, using milk from nearby Lacey’s farm. In fact, some suppliers are VERY local, with many items from Seed1 just around the corner, meaning zero packaging waste on these products!
We noted the food and drink was great value too, which will be appreciated by many. For now there are delicious looking cakes (gluten free included), pastries, tea cakes and such like – and hot food will come in due course.
We spoke to manager Jodie, who impressed us with her passion and vision for the project. She told us “I’m so excited to be involved with The Ark. This is a place where anyone will feel welcome, if they want to drop in for a chat, or just peace and quiet over a drink and cake. We also have space we can make available to local groups. We want this to be a community hub at the heart of Marlow”
Jodie will run the cafe with a team of volunteers, and more volunteers are welcomed. Full training will be given, and could equip local people with skills for future job prospects.
The Ark is definitely a different proposition to other cafe’s in Marlow, we welcome it and wish Jodie and the team all the best!
