Marlow’s Christmas Switch-On is back in real life!

| |

Marlow’s renowned Christmas lights Switch-On is back in force this year with Virgin Radio Breakfast Show Presenter Chris Evans, and even more festive entertainment than before.

Last year Chris, himself a local resident, was secretly filmed turning on the Christmas lights so that residents in lockdown were still able to see and enjoy the event. This year, he’s back in person and will be on the top of the double-decker bus outside the Chequers pub on Thursday 25th November for the big switch on.

Street entertainers on stilts, including Jack Frost, the Snow Queen and the Ice Witch will roam the High Street alongside a trio of Enchanted Ballerinas. ‘Real’ snow will fall, whatever the weather, thanks to snow machines, and visitors are encouraged to add to the magic of the evening by bringing a little sparkle of their own — fairy lights, sparkly hats and light-up jewellery – anything to add to the illuminations.

“This year’s event will be better than ever,” Richard Scott, Mayor of Marlow, said. “We’re delighted that Chris is joining us in person and we’re hoping that everyone helps light up the town with their own versions of Christmas lights.”

Switch-On is on Thursday 25th November. The High Street will be closed from 5.00 pm. There will be ‘snow’ and street entertainments from 6.00 pm and the Switch-On ceremony will take place at 6.30 pm. The road will reopen at 7.30 pm.
