A brand new DVD, with over one and three quarter hours of local nostalgia.
Following the very successful vintage film show in the Assembly Room to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Coronation, every film shown has been put onto DVD, and is now available at W.H.Smith or the Tourist Information Office. Included are the old cine films of the Marlow Coronation celebrations in 1937 and 1953 and a 1960 documentary “Jewel Of The Thames” which was made for the town of Marlow, New Hampshire, U.S.A.
Coming more up to date is Derek Mason’s excellent and informative film “This Is Marlow”, made in 1989, and of special interest in one section – a tour round all of Marlow’s pubs, some of which are now no longer there.
There is also footage of the Queen ‘s visit in 2002 to unveil Sir Steve Redgrave’s statue, and a short steam trip on the footplate of engine 1450 “The Marlow Donkey “en route to Bourne End.
The DVD, priced at £8.99, is a joint production between the Marlow Society and Marlow FM Radio Station.
Where can we get this from Paul
Easiest place in WH Smiths in Marlow, Steve. Not available on-line etc as yet I’m afraid, though I guess at some point it will be…
It is available at Marlow information Centre (entrance on Institute Road, next to Post Office ), A preview of the film is playing in the shop.
