Swan Upping – Photo special

| |

We have been sent a superb set of photos of the recent Swan Upping ceremony passing through Marlow on July 19th and 20th 2011. Many thanks to local professional photographer Simon Fielder of www.sounds-and-images.co.uk for letting us share them with you!

Swan Upping is the ancient ceremony of counting and marking the swans along the River Thames, and plays an important role in the conservation of the mute swan . The Royal Swan Uppers, who wear the scarlet uniform of Her Majesty The Queen, travel in traditional rowing skiffs together with Swan Uppers from the Vintners’ and Dyers’ livery companies.
