There are a number of sporting challenges coming up in Marlow in 2012 – too many for one article!
So first off, we will feature the range of events organised by F3 Events. Last year, I took part in their Olympic distance triathlon – it was well organised and a lot of fun!
Marlow Half Iron Distance Triathlon – Sunday June 24th.
This will be the inaugural Half Iron Distance triathlon to be held in the Marlow and only the second event to ever take place over this distance along the Thames Valley.
Starting in Higginson Park, with a 1.9km river swim, followed by an 86km bike ride, then a 20km run! Quite the challenge then…
With over 300 entries already taken, and limited to 500 places this year – it has already received some fantastic support, and should be a great success. The F3 website has more details.
The Marlow River Swim – Saturday 14th July
Your chance to “do a Walliams”… in fact David unofficially took part in this event as preparation for his huge Thames Swim.
The Marlow River Swim takes place on the Saturday evening and has received a great following. An opportunity to complete a challenge and still have time to go out and celebrate straight afterwards in the town centre!
There are THREE distances to choose from this year that will cater for both beginners and experienced swimmers – 750m, 1.5km and 3km. Each swim consists of a single lap out and back swim in the River Thames for all the distances with clear markings on the buoys on when to turn.
Marlow Olympic and Sprint Distance Triathlons – Sunday 15th July
This will be the 3rd year of running for the Sprint (750m swim, 24.5km bike & 5km run) , and the 2nd for the Olympic (1.5km swim, 37km bike & 10km run) triathlons in Marlow.
The races, starting in Higginson Park, consist of a swim in the river, followed by a bike ride out towards Henley, then running laps round a route including the river towpath.
The events sold out in 2011, this year they are looking to increase entrants from 600 to 750. As it was such a success last year, it is expected to be full in the next month or so.
Check out the F3 website for either the Sprint , or Olympic length events.
Let us know if you enter, and how you get on!
