Back in August, we reported on plans for new Travelodge on the Globe Park site, taking up part of the vacant site opposite the Marlow Club. That planning application is still “awaiting decision”. We also mentioned that The Marlow Club was intending on submitting plans for a decked parking area on the other part of that site. This planning application has now been submitted.
The Marlow Club confirmed its plans to invest approximately £1.4 million in the construction of a two-storey car park on the vacant land in Fieldhouse Lane, creating an additional 165 spaces within Globe Business Park.
The propsoed decked car park will provide approx 85 bays on the top floor that are reserved exclusively for The Marlow Club members , while the ground floor spaces will be managed by Wycombe District Council and offered to local businesses on a lease basis.
Jon Williams, Chief Operating Officer at The Marlow Club says: “Plans for the car park will help to alleviate some of the current issues with car parking and congestion on the business park as well as regenerating a derelict area which will improve the overall aesthetics of this section of the business park. Throughout the building phase, we will make sure our members experience as little inconvenience as possible and will provide temporary, alternative car parking within walking distance of The Club.”
Plans will be subject to the usual planning process and, assuming permissions are granted, building work on the car park is expected to start in early 2018. It is hoped, if all goes to plan, the first cars will be making use of this much needed facility by the middle of 2018.
Cllr Steve Broadbent, Wycombe District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, says, “The car park really is beneficial to everyone, providing additional parking capacity for members of The Marlow Club and spill over parking spaces for people staying at the proposed Travelodge hotel.
“It also provides the council with further spaces that can be made available to the various businesses on the Globe Business Park, with the planned decked car park taking a significant amount of on-street parking off the road which should improve road safety, access and traffic movement around the park.”
The parking solution also means that The Marlow Club can push ahead with plans to redevelop and create a bespoke Yoga and Pilates studio, including a complete reconfiguration of the existing facilities to incorporate a new lounge and café restaurant area, extra therapy rooms, an extension to the fitness space and more.
