Temple Footbridge upstream of Temple Lock has now re-opened. This is great news, and is sooner than we had expected given previous statements regarding the survey work being undertaken to check the safety of the structure. The bridge is extremely popular and regularly used by walkers and runners.
A statement from the Environment Agency said:
During a routine inspection in February 2019, observations were made that needed to be investigated and as a result public access to the bridge was closed for safety reasons. We did this in partnership with the original bridge designers who looked at the current condition of the bridge against its 1989 design.
These investigations have now concluded and the safety concerns addressed.
We will be installing public awareness information signs to the bridge as well as undertaking minor bridge maintenance during this season, however we will work to minimise the impact this has on Thames Path users.
We would like to thank everyone for their support and patience while we have been undertaking our investigations
